SeaBird

The below epistle is a journal comprising a collection of letters, photos and notes on the voyage of the yacht “Sea Bird” with Barbara and Richard Ham as crew around the world. The section covering the Adriatic was written by our friend David Henshaw: he was with us for that fortnight.

“Sea Bird” is a 12 metre cruising yacht designed by Joe Adams for two people to cruise around the world in comfort and safety. She is “state of the art” in her handling systems and electronics which are such that two geriatric dinosaurs can handle her without even having to leave the cockpit in any conditions. This account is of her second circumnavigation. She is a beautiful yacht and the best we have ever owned.

“Sea Bird” and Richard left Geelong in March 2002 with a crew to meet Barbara in Darwin who had been staying with her daughter, Lucy, till her twins were born. Our departure was marred by the commodore refusing the day before our booking to allow the yacht to be slipped for antifouling. His decision was based on the fact that the yacht was ¼ tonne too heavy for the arbitrary safe load on the slip at the time. It would have been a much more acceptable decision had it been made earlier to give us time to make other arrangements. As a result, the yacht was slipped at Coffs Harbour commercially and I was over $1,000 out of pocket.  ...........to read more of this please download the pdf below
